Your saved places sit together on the map, each marked by where it stands: Considering, Doing or Done.

A cluster near your room makes an easy morning. The place across town can wait for the day you feel like going.

A place worth saving has a reason

Someone mentions a bakery near the market. You walk past a courtyard with three tables and a lemon tree. Your companion suggests a quiet café a few streets from your room. Any of them might make a good morning, or none of them, depending on the day you end up having.

Saved places in Sobremesa are the real places you're keeping in mind for this journey. They sit on your map, belong to the chapter where they make sense, and carry a simple status, so you can see what you're still weighing and what you've already lived.

Considering, Doing, Done

Three words turn out to be enough.

  • Considering: interested, not committed. Most places start here, and plenty stay.
  • Doing: you've decided. Tomorrow's breakfast, this week's long walk, the one thing before you leave.
  • Done: you went. What you thought of it is worth a line.

There's nothing to complete. A long Considering list isn't a backlog. It's a handful of options waiting for the right kind of day, whether that turns out to bring rain, tired legs or an unexpectedly free afternoon.

Finding places that fit

Ask your companion the way you'd ask a friend who knows how you travel. It can suggest a few real places, say why each might suit you and offer to save the ones you like. Nothing goes on your map unless you want it there. Something you might say:

I'm staying near the beach and want somewhere for a slow breakfast tomorrow. Shade, not a scene. What would you look at?

And once one of the ideas catches:

The second one sounds right. Could you save it as considering? I'll decide in the morning.

You decide what's worth keeping and when it moves. The companion can explain a suggestion, compare two places or think of something closer when the day changes. It won't plan your route or book anything. Opening hours and availability change, so check anything you're relying on with the place itself.

Seeing where they sit

A map tells you what a list can't. Three possibilities around the same few streets make an easy morning. Five scattered across the city are a decision waiting to happen. Open a place to see its details, set its status and open it in Maps when it's time to go.

If you're still collecting ideas before a trip, how to plan a solo trip has a gentle way to save a few places first and see how they sit together.

When a place becomes a memory

Some places quietly become part of the journey: the bakery that turned into your morning, the bench where an afternoon stretched. When something happens there that you'd like to keep, leave a trace in your travel journal and tie it to the place. A trace can be as simple as this example:

Third morning at the bakery by the beach. The corner table was free again.

Later, the moment and the place stay connected.

Questions about saved places

Do I need to save everything before I go?

No. Save a handful before you leave and more once you know how a place feels. Considering is meant to hold maybes.

What happens after the journey?

Your places stay with the journey and its chapters, alongside the traces you kept. Before the next one, look at what you marked Done and what never left Considering. It's a quiet clue to how you like to travel, and a good place to begin planning the next journey. To keep the remembering going in the meantime, read how to keep a travel journal.
